The audio carriers are documented and cataloged in the FN-Base 2000 database. The documentation can be consulted at the Swiss National Sound Archives or over the Internet. The audio carriers, for reasons of preservation and law, are not available on loan.

As a rule, the materials must be used in the place where they are stored. For the most of the audio carriers, a working copy must first be made. The loan of a working copy is possible only in special cases, that is to say when the purpose justifies the direct use of the document (scientific research). Scientific audio documents, the non-commercial audio carriers of the SUISA deposit and the historical broadcasts are subject to additional restrictions on use.
