The mandate of the Swiss National Sound Archives is to collect and to valorize the Swiss cultural sound heritage. The discographies and the phonographies fit this purpose.
Similar to what bibliographies are to books, the discographies include all sound recordings that have been commercially published. The phonographies, on the other hand, gather any kind of sound recordings, whether published or not, including private-, scientific-, as well as research recordings, radio recordings, live recordings, etc.
The phonographies of the Phonotheque include all sound recordings stored in its archives, related to a selection of names. Their presentation differs from the third-party discographies/phonographies, whose custom design is retained, and that may also refer to documents not available in our archives. These are made available to collectors, researchers, and music lovers on the website of the Phonotheque to facilitate their dissemination.
