Das Deutsche Musikarchiv in Berlin ist die zentrale Sammlung von Musikalien und Tonträgern und das musikbibliografische Informationszentrum Deutschlands. 1970 gegründet und der Deutschen Bibliothek Frankfurt am Main als Abteilung angegliedert, setzt es die Tätigkeiten der Deutschen Musik-Phonothek (1961 - 1969) fort.

L'ICBSA, subentrata alla Discoteca di Stato dal 2008, ha il compito di documentare, valorizzare e conservare il patrimonio sonoro e audiovisivo nazionale. Il suo patrimonioo è composto attualmente da oltre 300.000 supporti sonori:
cilindri di cera, fili metallici, dischi, nastri, compact disc, videocassette, dvd, pervenuti tramite deposito legale, acquisto, registrazione di manifestazioni culturali promosse dall'ICBSA o da altri istituti, donazioni e convenzioni.

Das Phonogrammarchiv, ein Institut der österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, ist das älteste Schallarchiv der Welt. Seit September 2001 umfaßt der Tätigkeitsbereich des Phonogrammarchivs auch die Archivierung und Bewahrung videographischer Forschungsdokumente.

Die Aufgaben umfassen das Sammeln, Dokumentieren, Auswerten und Publizieren von Tonaufnahmen in allen Schweizer Dialekten in den vier Landessprachen. Dazu gehören neben den Deutschschweizer Dialekten, die französischen Patois, die lombardischen Dialekte des Tessins und der Bündner Südtäler und die rätoromanischen Dialekte Graubündens.

South Africa

National Film, Video and Sound ARchives (NFVSA) blank National Film, Video and Sound Archives (NFVSA)
NFVSA is a sub-directorate of the National Archives and Records Service of South Africa, located in Pretoria. State generated material is transferred periodically in terms of the National Archives and Records Service of South Africa Act (No 43 of 1996). However, the NFVSA has a broad mandate to collect audio-visual and related material which was made in or about South Africa. Material is mainly donated by the film, video and sound industry, as well as private persons.

In the 1920s, the sound recording archive began when phono record companies gave the Library samples of their records. About the same time, the Library's Archive of American Folksong started assembling a rich collection of original field recordings of American music and folklore.

The work that the National Film and Sound Archive undertakes dates back to the National Historical Film and Speaking Record Library (part of the then Commonwealth National Library), which was established by a Cabinet decision on 11 December 1935. The National Film and Sound Archive was created as a separate Commonwealth collecting institution in 1984.

New Zealand

Sound Archives/Nga Taonga Korero is New Zealand’s only specialist archive of contemporary and historical radio programmes, responsible for managing, collecting, preserving and providing access to the nation’s recorded radio heritage. The Nga Taonga Korero collections have a Maori focus, whilst the Sound Archives in Christchurch collections hold a broad range of recordings.
