MANSOUR, Ahmad

* Tehran, 07.06.1960, † Genève, 01.07.2011

Guitare, Guitare électrique

Spent his childhood in Switzerland before moving to the United States to pursue musical studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1980 and becoming an American citizen in 1990. He also studied privately with Mick Goodrick, John Abercrombie and Richie Beirach.

Blessed with an active and competitive music scene, Boston was the ideal place to grow as a performer and develop long-lasting musical partnerships. His first recording, "Is Really This It?" with Hungarian pianist Laszlo Gardonyi, Norwegian bassist Terje Gewelt and Canadian drummer Ian Froman was released in 1985.

In 1986, Ahmad Mansour moved to New York City, a logical move for a lot of Boston musicians seeking wider exposure. In the next few years he recorded three CDs for the dutch label, Timeless Records and another two for the French label Gorgone Jazz; all featuring original compositions, innovative and talented musicians such as George Mraz, Marc Copland, Donny McCaslin, Ian Froman, Terje Gewelt.

Since relocating in Europe in 1999, Ahmad Mansour has recorded two CDs for the Norwegian label, Resonant Music: "Apples and Oranges" (2000) and "Nightlight" (2001), feature original compositions drawing from a wide variety of influences, blending Middle Eastern, Jazz, Country and Rock in a cohesive and personal style.

Over the last decade, Ahmad Mansour has been an active performer and composer on the New York and European music scenes. Tours, festival appearances and CD releases have garnered critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic.
