Magnetic audio tape (tape recorder)

The first magnetic tape was introduced by BASF in 1934. Audio tapes found wide use both in the professional as well as in the commercial sectors (radio broadcasting, together with disc recording). The possibility of producing entire broadcasts in the studio whereby tapes, even from different sources, could be cut and put together, guaranteed the wide use of tape recording from the 1950's onward, especially in the professional field.
