Metal recording disc

Metal recording discs

Metal records made of steel or aluminum were produced for private use. People could easily record their own voice and play it back on a phonograph. Metal discs were not brittle and did not warp, but they could corrode when not stored carefully. These records needed to be played with a special stylus made of bamboo, hard wood, or cactus - a steel needle would damage the grooves. This type of record carried names such as Egovox, Speak-O-Phone, Repeat-a-Voice, Remsen, or Kodisc.
